Well Gunfighters

We did it! The 2017 "Showdown in Dixie"
The CFDA Virginia State  Championship was a great success!
We had 74 shooters in our Category matches and 71 in our Overall Match.  We exceeded our goal of 70 shooters!
I cannot begin to thank all of you for your tireless work and support to make this happen, this was a success because of each and everyone of You!
Ringo mentioned that our people are "Extraordinary" and I agreed. You are the best of the best and you should all pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
To all the guys and gals who helped with set up and tear down I am so grateful for your tireless effort, you made my vision of the range and the whole set up a reality and I can't begin to thank you enough. We put on a good match! We made some errors and learned some lessons but overall it went very smoothly, we will make some changes next year that will make it even better.
Special "Thanks" to Tammy and Tish for there unbelievable work, they had to put up with me and the computer and the long days to make this shoot happen. They are without a doubt the backbone of this club!
We had shooters from 12 states attend our shoot and all seemed to have a good time and were ready to come back next year.

This Saturday April 8th we will be doing a PR event at Cabela's in Short Pump, it is their 1 year Anniversary and we have been asked to set-up a tent with information about Cowboy Fast Draw. Cabela's is a GOLD sponsor of the Virginia State Championship so we need to show them how much we appreciate their support, so come on out Saturday morning at 8am to help set-up and dress in your "Cowboy duds" and wear your gun so we can represent the CFDA and Virginia Peacemakers! event last till 4pm.

See ya on the line!

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Paladin (Clint Arrington) has passed away. He died yesterday afternoon after fighting a long battle with heart issues. Virginia Peacemakers and the CFDA have lost a great friend, supporter and competitor.
At the last match he was able to attend last year at our Club Championship he received the "Top Hand" award. I was honored to present him this award, most of you know but some may not know how instrumental he and Sanddollar have been in the growth of this club, there were times when we would have had no where to shoot our monthly match if they would have not offered the use of Lonesome Dove for our match, we used their facility for monthly practices twice a month for about a year and it was instrumental in bringing in several of our Club members we have today.
I have never met a man more giving of himself to others, the work he did for our Nations wounded Veterans with Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center is nothing short of amazing! He received many awards for his work but always said he did nothing, it was the men and women who make up our Armed Forces who have given so much of themselves that deserve all the praise.
All of us who knew Clint will have to admit we will never know another man like him. He was stubborn and steadfast, but you were never confused on where he stood.
I will miss him so very much as I am sure many of you will.
Please keep Sherry Newark (Sanddollar) in your prayers as well as the whole family.
There will be a "Celebration of Life"event event this Saturday at Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center in Powhatan at 1pm.

Howdy Gunfighters

We originally were going to shoot on May the 7th but Billie and I figured out a way to go to the Florida State and Eastern Territorial May 4 - 7.
I hope I haven't confused anybody but we will be shooting on April 30th for our May match.
We will be setting up on Saturday April 29th at 1pm, we will be shooting under the Pavillion if the relay for Life is finished. If not , we will setup inside.
I will send out another email early next week to remind everybody.

Howdy Gunfighters!

We had a great time Sunday with 38 shooters on the line for our July monthly match!! And it was warm.....

Thanks again to everyone who came out and helped with set-up and tear down. I have bragged to other clubs that we have the best group of people in the Country and you guys continue to prove me right!

Thanks again to the Food Posse for bringing some fine fixings for us to munch on.

Well...... it has began!! "Showdown in Dixie" is here!!!

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday we will be hosting the CFDA Virginia State Championship!!

We will crown new Va. State Category Champions on Friday and new overall State Champions on Sunday.

We are going to have a great time!!! Saturday night Social will be a blast with great food, door prizes, awards and some live entertainment by Rebecca Bryant a.k.a. "Lil Ike"  you are not gonna want to miss this event, remember your meal was included in your registration fee.

It is not to late to sign up! We will be taking registrations all the way up to time to shoot!!

Friday Category Championships is a separate shoot, and Saturday and Sunday are the main match, so you can shoot one or both!!

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who is helping to make this shoot come together, this is a group effort and it could not happen without the dedication and loyalty of some very special people! Some are using their Vacations this year to make this shoot happen and I cant thank you enough for all you do!!

We will be working on the Ranges and overall set-up all this week, everyday by 10am we will be at the range working, so if you have any time to spare we can sure use your help! The Banquet was Fantastic!! thanks again to everyone who brought food and supplies, I believe everybody got there bellies full.
In addition to crowning our new Club Champions we also named our "Top Guns" of the year in youth, ladies and men.
Congratulations to our 2017 Top Gun Winners!
Youth: Bad To The Bone
Ladies: Miss Shotwell
Men: Big Ugly
These shooters get to shoot "FREE" for the 2018 season!!!

We also recognized our "Top Hand" award winners for 2017, this is a very special award given by the CFDA, nominees are nominated by the club and approved by the CFDA, this is an exclusive group of very special people that give of themselves unselfishly to make our club so great, they work tirelessly in our matches and are always available to do anything asked of them, but mostly they take initiative to do things to better the club without any praise or recognition. Running this club is a group effort and it could not be done without their contribution!!
Congratulations!!  Texas Pete and Seven!

Lastly we named our "Spirit of the Game Award" we give out one of these at the "Showdown In Dixie" State Championship for efforts in putting on that event but this one is for the whole year of dedication and hard work, behind the scenes efforts and for exemplifying the "Cowboy Way" this is our first time to do this and we will continue this each year.
Congratulations:  Billie Sioux

Overall we had a Great year! I am looking forward to 2018, we are going to get back to more recruiting efforts next year so we can grow our Fast Draw Family even more.  Thanks again to everyone for a Great Year!

Congratulations to our Division Winners!

Youth: Jittery Joe

Howdy Gunfighters
We will have our June shoot this Sunday
June 4th, registration at 8:30am safety meeting at 9:30 And match starts at 10am.
We will be shooting inside due to the stormy whether forecast for Sunday. Temperatures should be in the low 70's so it will be "Great" shooting weather.
We will be setting up at 6pm Saturday, I know this is later than normal but Billie and I will be in Salem Virginia at Trader Jerry's doing a 2 day "Try Cowboy Fast Draw" event and that will be the earliest we can get back. We will need as many Volunteers that can to help with setup Saturday evening! We usually can get it all ready in under 2 hours if we have enough help.
This Friday and Saturday we will be at Trader Jerry's Gun shop in Salem, Va. holding a 2 day "Try Cowboy Fast Draw" event. If you can come out and help us out for this event it would be greatly appreciated!! Trader Jerrys has been a sponsor of "Showdown in Dixie" since we began holding a State Championship, and each year we hold an event at their "Open House" to allow their customers to try Fast Draw, we usually hold some kind of match on Saturday but this year we have decided to dedicate both days to letting people try Fast Draw. Aaron with Trader Jerry's was very happy with the change and has again offered us 2 Single Action Pistols as a sponsorship for "Showdown in Dixie". We can't say enough about how much their sponsorship has meant to us through the years so if you can come out and help us out with this event it would be greatly appreciated. Saturday tear down I will need help taking down since a lot of our shooters will be cutting out early to go to Kopperhead Kids wedding. Let's all Congratulate Kopperhead Kid and Klementine on their marriage and wish them all the best!!
Speaking of "Showdown in Dixie" the 2017 Virginia State Championship July 7th,8th and 9th it is only a Month away!!!! If you haven't got your registration in yet then please do!! We will have the forms at Sundays shoot, you can pay using a Credit Card using PayPal if you like. We really need these in this coming week,  we have so much left to buy to get ready, please if you can let's get this done!
Look forward to a "busy" weekend of Fast Draw, and hope to see all of you this weekend!!

Howdy Gunfighters

Thanks so much to the 23 shooters who came out for our "Early May Match" We had a great time and the weather was "Beautiful"

I want to especially thank everyone who showed up on Saturday to help with set-up! We had a late start due to the "Celebration Of Life Event" at Lonesome Dove for Clint Arrington's passing. This was a wonderful celebration of Clint's work through the years and a great outpouring of respect and gratitude for all that he has accomplished, there were several hundred people there and it was wonderful listening to the stories told about how Clint affected their lives, it truly was special, I know he affected my life, I will never forget the contributions he made to the Virginia Peacemakers and for his friendship.

Congratulations to our Division winners:

Men: Big Ugly

Ladies: Miss Shotwell

Youth: Irish Cowboy

Thanks also to everyone who helped with the take down and transferring of our equipment to my shed.

Wish us all "Luck" that are traveling to Florida for the Florida State Championship and Eastern Territorial Championship!!

We hope to bring home some titles to Va. Wish Big Ugly success in defending his Eastern U.S Territorial Championship.

Youth: Bad to the Bone

Ladies: Miss Shotwell

Thanks so much to everyone who helped with set-up and tear down, it is greatly appreciated!! It was really nice being able to store the range equipment in the Fast Draw Trailer, this makes us less dependent on Amelia Parks and we have full control of our "Stuff" at all times.

Thanks to the Food Posse for bringing the good snacks, it's always a treat to see what shows up.

We welcomed a new shooter and member to the CFDA who shot his first shoot, welcome to One Eyed Joe!

This Sunday August the 13th head on out to Bedford for the Grandview Gunslingers monthly shoot!

We will be moving the ranges out of the Barn because of the fair by the end of the month so I will be asking for some help with that, hopefully by then I will have a permanent place to store them so we wont need to move them around much anymore.

We will also be making some decisions about our September Match, our regular match would be a day before the Fair starts and I don't think that will be possible, I will let you know what we decide as soon as I can.

See ya soon on the line!
